R R Patil tells CBI to revisit Malegaon case

Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil on Monday shot off a letter to the CBI asking it to take a relook at the 2006 Malegaon blast following the reported confession of Swami Aseemanand, who is in Rajasthan ATS’s custody.

Patil said role of organisations, including the RSS, in terror activities were being examined to consider banning them.

“We have requested the CBI to take a relook at the Malegaon case in the wake of the confession made before the magistrate by Aseemanand, who was arrested by Rajasthan ATS. We have also asked CBI to look into the exact role of Aseemanand in the blast,” Patil said.

When asked if the government was considering seeking a ban on the RSS, Patil said: “If any organisation is involved in terror activities, it should be banned.”
